Going to the ER during a pandemic is stressful.

I requested a routine blood test to be done for molly because of my ‘mom sense’ that something wasn’t right. When the lab ran the tests, they called to tell me to take molly directly to the ER! Her liver enzymes were incredibly high.

It is stressful to go to the ER during a pandemic. During that visit, several inconclusive tests were run, then molly was referred to a specialist: a gastroenterologist.

He asked for several more types if blood tests (10 vials of blood!). I got the results of these tests thru the patient portal, 2 weeks before our telehealth appointment in which the doctor was to explain what the test results meant. Looking at her ceruloplasmin test result of 55, I thought to myself, no big deal. The normal range is 17-54, and she’s just 1 point above “normal". And her ALT and AST liver enzymes were still high, but not nearly as high as they had been a couple of weeks before. I felt encouraged.

As I prepared for the telehealth appointment, my list of questions to ask included: why did her liver enzymes go up, then down? Might medications, environment, or diet be a factor?
