Waiting

We’ve waited 2 weeks for the scheduled televisit with Molly’s specialist in which we’ll learn more about what’s going on with her. During that time, I organized all the test results into a notebook, wrote up my questions for the doctor, called his office to confirm the appointment, and asked them to update their records because I see when I log into the patient portal that their records are incomplete on her existing medications. I was told I would need to tell the doctor about the medications during the appointment. We arranged our week, the week of Christmas, around this appointment, as Molly goes back and forth to her foster caregiver’s home. I picked Molly up yesterday so we’d both be here for this important televisit.

The time for the appointment came and we gathered around my phone, waiting for the text message from the doctor’s office, as we’d been instructed.

The message never came. Molly and I both waited for 30 minutes, thinking he might just be running late. Then I told Molly to relax, that I would come get her if anything happened. I waited 2 hours, then another half hour for good measure. These appointments are in the evening, 7 pm. There is no answer when I call the doctor’s office. There is no way to send a message through this doctor’s patient portal.

“Patient” portal. I must learn to be more patient.

I will call the office during office hours, after the holiday, to reschedule.
